CLUBMED: DAY 1 110509
12:25 a.m. @ Saturday, May. 23, 2009

I think i should do this day-by-day. :)

Before anything, photo credits to everybody - Gwen Sirui and Xinli. And i apologize, HAHAHA coz i think my folder is the messiest and reverse-upside-down illogical chronological order. ARGHH SORRY :(

DAY 1.
6.45am at airport. Xinli was the earliest, we met up at T2 Counter 7 (izzit called Counter? Or Gate. Or Lane?), and sat around to wait for Gwen and Sirui. Check-in counter at Counter 11, and met up with Gwen and Sirui there, who arrived at about the same time.

Checked in with this female officer who had ridiculously exaggerated electric-blue eyelashes. Omg i couldnt stop staring at them. I think her eyelids would become damn muscular just from holding up the fake eyelashes the whole day. Anyway at this point, Crisis #1 occurred.

In between staring at her eyelashes and forcing myself to look around to stop staring, i noticed my passport was opened on her desk, and on top of my passport was another one, with a photo of a middle-aged man. Naively i thought maybe she's a noob and she has a reference passport or something (IN RETROSPECT, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I THOUGHT LIKE THAT. But this is an honest [i wonder why i bother being so honest] recount.) Then after settling 3 of our check-ins, Fake Eyelashes asked "*holds up middle-aged man passport* Er may i know who is Foo..."

Then we realized SR got the wrong passport and brought her dad's passport instead.

Actually i think we all reacted in a commendably calm manner, and she calmly took back the passport and promptly called her dad, while we calmly checked-in our luggage and calmly headed towards Burger King to sit down and have our breakfast and resolve the crisis. Her dad went home to get the passport, and came down to pass to her, and everything was settled by about 8.15am, with our flight at 9am. Actually there was rather ample time, and we had enough time to take a typical touristy Changi Airport photo.

Reference for our pre-Clubmed skin tone. SR is probably a shade paler than usual, after the Passport Crisis #1. And what the hell i realized - HAHAHA why is the contrast between my face and knees/calves so great?! Zomg.

HAHAHAHA typical GL photo, though i say so myself.

Our plane was a rather small one, quite like budget actually, but i like it! 2 rows of seats, with 1 aisle in between. Just in case, i took an anti-airsickness pill just before boarding, which proved to be a bit too late because i was feeling okay on the flight but totally drugged-drowsy after we touched down. Btw the flight was only about 1h 30min, after settling down and ordering apple juice and biscuits, the announcement came on "Dear passengers, we are landing in 30 minutes' time..."

The plane was 75% full of blonde/brown-headed Caucasians, and breakfast served was either Nasi Lemak or some Scrambled Eggs thingy, and judging by the envious looks at our biscuits (the nice Silkair flight stewardess offered biscuits when we declined the breakfast set) i think the breakfast sets sucked.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GL-ING WITH THE "FAKE" OREO. The biscuits seemed like Khong Guan products. Well done, local airline support local biscuit brand.

HAHAHAHAHA I THINK THIS IS A VERY GOOD SHOT HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!

When we touched down at Phuket airport, i realized i completely failed to consider what to do next after we reach. HAHAHA! Luckily the Clubmed person was rather conspicuous and yah, the service was good and seemed promising, coz even at the airport, they have a cooler box where they keep chilled water to offer to us, while we wait for the transport. We got this big spacious movie-star-kind van/MPV, the whole car to 4 of us only, and it was a really comfortable (and drug-induced drowsy, for me) ~30min ride to the Clubmed resort.

Upon arrival, (i know it sounds kua zhang, but it's true and i was also in disbelief initially) there was this welcome reception and 2 G.O.s Alvin and Da (it stands for Gentle Organizer, or Gentil Organisateur which is the exotic atas-attap-chee sounding Flench version or something) waited at the front porch and welcomed and led us to the lobby where 4 sets of Iced Water + Iced Tea (which tasted funny) + Cold Towels were waiting for us, and we were magically effortlessly checked in - ie, we did nothing except drink the water, trythe tea, wipe our face with the cold towel, and then we're checked in, if you get what i mean. Alvin, GO from Mauritius (I realized i've never thought about how an indigenous Mauritian is like), did a brief but very enthusiastic and energetic introduction and verbal orientation of Clubmed, and then Da, the very nice and friendly and pleasant and sweet i think local-Phuket Thai girl, brought us to our rooms.

And we found out, to our infinitely euphoric unbelievable to the max surprise, we got upgraded to Suites. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. We didnt even know why. But yes like Wanling said when i told her about it, "Aah this kind of thing, no need to ask so much!!" HAHAHAHA YEA MAN.

When we first opened the door... The turquoise tile part is actually the toilet. So you're looking at through Main Door, then Walk-In Wardrobe, then Side Door of Toilet. Yes there is a Main Door of Toilet. HAHAHA!

This is a candid-looking posed Tired shot of our dear Sirui. Oh yah btw HAHAHA after sitting down in front of our unbelievably-good-&-kua-zhang reception of Iced Water+Tea+Cold Towel, we were adorned with the distinctly Thailand floral garnish.

The Unbelievable Bath in the Unbelievable Toilet.

1 King-sized bed, but sharing was definitely no problem. There were also this 2 Unbelievable Towel ELEPHANT Figurines. AMAZING.

AND CHECK OUT THE ELABORATE ROOM RECEPTION HAHAHAHA! FRUITS BASKET + CHAMPAGNE, MAN. :O
Ok other than that, this is a rather GL photo HAHAHA.

Then came down to the main area to laze around, get free drinks from the bar (OMG... THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF MY +++ POINTS FOR CLUBMED - FREE DRINKS ALL DAY AT THE BAR. HAHAHA cocktails, mocktails, hot chocolate, even things like BANANA MILKSHAKE. All complete with the customary Pineapple+Orchid/Lime slice perched on the edge of the cup. And of course my other favourite place is the Restaurant/Dining Place HAHAHA that deserves another entry) and then check out the schedule for the day to plan our activities.

This is the point where we first encountered Benson, the Taiwanese GO, who was walking around calling for people to join the Pool Game. Wah man i really love the way he/Taiwanese people speak Mandarin.

Oh yah before this. Shortly after our arrival at Clubmed, like after the enthusiastic intro by GO Alvin and before we reached our rooms, i got this mild culture shock when along the way to our rooms, all the GOs that we meet, and some GM (Gentle Members... = other guests) greeted Hi so enthusiastically and sincerely, as if we've been here and known them since forever. Amazing.

Anyway so spontaneously, we took part in this Pool Game (literally, a game that was held at the pool) which was to use a golf club to hit a tennis ball, and attempt to land the tennis ball in the hoop held by another GO, in the middle of the pool. GO Wayan (whom we got to know later) was the one facilitating. At that point i remembered him for his remarkable resemblance to Dong Li Huo Che.

Gwen in action!
We all kinda failed, except for Sirui who got 1 in. HAHAHA.

We changed and went for POOL YOGA, where we met GO Kadek the Yoga Instructor. HAHAHAHAHA at this point i am shaking with laughter and at the same time, thinking about how our fate with Kadek started waywayway earlier, when we unanimously decided Yoga as one of the Top Priority activities that we wanted to do at Clubmed.

Which soon came to top the Things/Activities/Person To Avoid list. HAHAHAHAHA WHAT A DRASTIC CHANGE.

Other than the whoa-nice-ness of the place (seriously, i cant say enough of WHOA,-NICE about Clubmed) please note
1) the white leather/PVC cushioned deck chairs
2) the rolls of blue towels already placed on each deck chair
3) the little orchid perched on each of the roll of blue towel on each deck chair.
OMGGG. Ok i say this rather guiltily, as part of ECOTravel and also someone who is trying hard not to contradict my championing-environmental-friendliness-affiliations, it was super convenient how they provided new fresh clean towels, which also means high consumption of fresh towels every day, which means high usage of detergents/electricity for the cleaning and everything.

Anyway, i also borrowed my uncle's waterproof + shockproof Olympus (which became the main character of Crisis #3, to be elaborated later) for this trip, and here's the only respectably clear and subjects-ready underwater shot which we took after our Pool Yoga session.

Dude in front is GO Kadek, with whom we had many fateful encounters afterwards during the next 4 days. Guy beside me is this French dude Maurice. Retiree, on holiday with his wife and generally enjoying life.

The Dining at Clubmed is really, impeccable. We had lunch upon arrival, and wow the buffet standard is like, good variety + high quality + got pasta everyday + EXTENSIVE DESSERTS SELECTION OMGG :) Comparable to The Carousel @ Royal Plaza, where we had the MMI dinner last time. That good. :D

After Dinner, we hung around and then went to watch this Asian Show. Every night at 9.30pm there's a live performance put up by the GOs (also, prob another entry about the infinitely impressive GOs team) but honestly this show was rather boring, coz it was just a dance performance, supposedly a representative medley of different Asian cultures. It was not bad, but not fantastic either. And we were rather tired after a whole day so after the performance ended we quickly went back to our rooms and slept.

Next day next entry.

Yay i'm working for Cai Qin concert tomorrow night, i hope i get a good vocation + good leader... AND DAMN IT i didnt get Aaron Kwok. ARGHHH. Was supposed to call on the Wednesday when i was at Clubmed, BUT I FORGOT, and called in the evening, and am now on waiting list. But likely to be gone-case liao. HAIII.

It has never occurred before and it will never be repeated. At midnight it will end, quietly, suddenly, totally. Forever.
