One word - superduper(surprisingly)awesome&coolttmCHIU GENG AH!!
Seriously. They have a new fan in me.
HAHAAHAAHAHAHAHA actually i signed up for this with a completely neutral mindset (unlike Weisong/Sisong which i was looking foward to and which was unfortunately disappointing) and Stereotypical Sirui said we'll sure get it coz nobody will want to work for this concert, and that it would be an Ah Beng Crowd. HAHAHAHAHA! (You'll be surprised at all the internally-referred-to terms/nicknames given to different crowds - Ang Moh Crowd, Auntie Uncle Crowd...)
So my vocation this time was West Usher while Sirui was North Usher. Initially i was feeling quite sian about it after my dubious experience at Oasis as East Usher, but for yesterday's show there was some relocation of seats and it was super challenging (stressful) and quite exciting (screwed up) HAHAHAA. This time my "new friends" of SIS GCO are Janice (the ex NY councillor! I recognized her at Oasis but she didnt go for Weisong/Sisong) and her friend Marlene, who was my partner as West Usehrs.
Actually i'm really amazed at how they (SISGCOs) handle the briefings/pre-event prep. We were told to report at 6pm, so general briefing only started at about 6.30pm? And hurhur i think our CSE (i dunno what it stands for, but it means he's the overall IC for the night) seemed like yesterday was his first time solo-IC (or something) and his briefing was a bit messy and very not-confident. Then we got split into our respective vocations and went into the stadium for group briefing.
I really like my group IC this time, i think he's a very good leader and i think he also recently became a "leader" so-called, (they get to wear important-looking black jackets while we wear weird red vests) and i think he's still not used to the promotion in status which is why he isnt as pompous and impatient. But he looked rather pained when he found out that in his group of 7 GCOs, there were 5 clueless noobs (me included), and West side had the more difficult relocation plans.
And halfway through our very short and intensely stressful group briefing (we were all scribbling down the relocation plans for our own info/reference) suddenly the security people informed us that the doors are open already and we should take our positions, so our briefing was forced to be ditched and ChuanCheng (my Group Leader) looked at us compellingly and just said "Okok no problem one. Let's do it, just go!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA.
Anyway it was really quite exciting doing the relocation, and i felt like i was really needed, because people would approach us and "Er... We were told to come here...?" then i can say "OOH okok let me make some changes to your ticket please..." and allocate and point out their new seats to them.
There were a few interesting incidents, where 2 Aunties (ok 2 ladies looking in their 40s?) who asked if they can sit at the side near the aisles, coz "等一下要摇 mah," HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA i was like "HAHA 没问题!"
And then one Uncle (he chatted briefly with me about the relocation, when i was marking his ticket) suddenly stood up and walked up the stairs so i was looking at him, ready to "Can i help you?" and he said "要走走,没办法,脚太长..." and started stretching.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA um he was a portly rotund uncle.
After about 90% of the crowd had come and settled down, the opening act was this DJ performance by 3 foreign DJs, i think they're Thai and Vietnamese. Actually this is the first time i'm watching er a DJ performance, it was quite HMMM... You cant really see clearly, coz it's just a table in the middle of the stage, and there're some equipment (i guess their mixing table/scratching whatiscalled?) and there's also (quite distinctly, haha!) a Macbook on the table. So 3 of them came on stage, stood at the table, and then you cant really see what exactly they're doing coz they pretty much stand/shake/groove on the same spot, while being very busy with their hands on all the equip on the table, and then the music started blasting.
At this point the house lights are all dimmed already, and it's finally a NON rushing-to-check-tickets/give-directions/hi-can-i-help-you time, and ChuanCheng came to me and gave me a 10min break.
WOW. I was rather :O surprised. HAHA though we were told that sometimes we will get breaks, i didnt get any for my first 2 events so i assumed it's just a say-only-no-break-actually thing.
So at that time, Cao Meng haven come out yet, and after i returned from my break, HAHAHAHA my mouth really dropped open when i saw the 3 of them on stage.
HIAO TO THE MAX, MAN. HAHAHAAHAHHAAHHAAHAHA. The first ensemble was the most baffling - 1 in this MOSAIC (like literally, the tile-like kind) trenchcoat + skullcap, 1 in a black glittery tight longsleeve shirt and tight pants, 1 with long flowy hair and an aqua blue tunic-thing which looks like wings when he spreads his arms. TOTALLY, WHAT THE HELL. AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!! But ok lah admittedly, it's the standard for good stage performances, coz they were definitely very conspicuous and it was entertaining to watch.
Then i realized they were singing in CANTONESE. OMG, HOW COULD I HAVE OVERLOOKED THAT. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!! Seriously i dunno how i could have NOT thought of that they're essentially a Cantopop group from HK. At that moment, my feelings about working at Grasshopper concert +10<3 HAHAHAHAHA!
Then i got deployed for Plan A (= get to sit down at in between Arena and Terrace seats, which is equivalent to around the 2nd highest price-cat location) and from then on, i was enjoying the concert more than i was seriously working HAHAHA.
The best part. Was this.
Halfway through they showed a vid of Anita Mui, and then the 3 of them (in the video) spoke about Anita Mui being their senior/teacher, and said as a tribute, they will perform some of her fast dance tracks.
THEN I DUNNO WHY, BUT THEY STARTED PLAYING LESLIE CHEUNG'S SONGS. OMG that was the 2nd incident of the night where my jaw dropped again. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA omg i wanted to scream and whoop.
Started with 侧面, then i cant remember the exact sequence, but 拒绝再玩, Stand Up, Monica, 不羁的风, 黑色午夜, and of course, ending with 无心睡眠, COMPLETE WITH THE SIGNATURE DANCE MOVES AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. WOW man. Seriously...
And throughout their performances, there were old vids of Leslie Cheung showing on the big screen. Can you say, OH. MY. LESLIE CHEUNG?!?! OMG MAN I WAS COVERING MY MOUTH WHILE WATCHING RIVETED.
Aah i never thought there would be a day where 无心睡眠 can be blasting in the Singapore Indoor Stadium, the Grasshoppers singing and dancing away to this song, Leslie Cheung's handsome face showing on the big screen, in front of a 5.5k crowd, + 1 screaming-and-whooping-and-feeling-inexplicable-euphoria-in-her-heart GCO sitting stunned, on the steps in between A34 and A35.
;_; Wah...
:) Ok overall it was really a very good performance, like in terms of dance choreography, stage design, lightings, music... And of course the experienced stage presence and stamina of the 3 veterans (my aunt calls them 三个老男人 HAHAHA) were impeccable. Really.
And i realized they're actually not bad looking. HAHA ok maybe i'm just biased after the Leslie Cheung medley. But hm there's still certain charm and really, indisputably, they are stellar performers. Really very good live performance last night.
And of course, you cant go wrong with Cantopop! WOOHOO! I'm damn addicted to Cantopop now.
COU MANG (whoa, first time i feel that the Canto name sounds more awkward) FOREVER!!
Ok off to 7d class lunch now.
